Today we got introduced  to an assignment on pages 122-135  of the book The Sorrow of War. We have to first read those pages before we start on the assignment. We have to pick one of the three choices and make a powerpoint which we will then present on Monday. I will be choosing the second option which is to imagine I was going through the trash if one of the characters then list 10 items that I might find in the trash, the I have to explain why I would find those items, and then describe them. I think i’ll b choosing Kien.

We’re still talking about the book The War of Sorrow. We were again in groups of 3 and discussing. We were on illuminate and we were still working on the same thing as yesterday. One of them was “He had arrived, smiling , and swung himself into the seat, just a little tipsy.” The topic of that is Alcoholism, the analysis is some people think that drinking is good and a good way to cope, but it’s not, for the conflict we put If he was to fall onto someone instead of the seat, it could have ended badly, and for the theme we put drinking is not the solution.

Today we read the story The Sorrow of War.. well we been reading it but we got into groups today and we had to read certain pages. As a group we’d read two pages and then discussed. Then we had to write it down on our chart. I usually enjoy working like this better because I feel like it helps me understand more.

In class we got to watch a video about Martin Luther King, called “My Dream has ‘turned into a nightmare.’ We also got to answer some questions with is which we discussed as a class. This following Monday January 15th was Martin Luther King Jrs day. So we got to talk about him, his “I have a dream” speech was a defining moment for the civil rights movement , for America as well as for King’s. Martin Luther King really changed the nation and awakened them. I think it is very important to know who he was and what he was known for.

Today we got introduced to the book ‘The Sorrow of War.’ We got to listen to an audio of the book as a class. As we were doing that we also got asked to find imagery, personification, illiteration , onomatopoeia, and a similie. For example for illiteration it said, “Broken bodies, bodies blown apart, bodies vaporized.” Basically we know that the story is talking about finding dead bodies in the war.

Today we talked about how we are going to start reading about the book “The Sorrow of War.” There’s going to be times where we read in class and times where we read at home. We also talked about Vietnam culture and etiquette. There is a lot of a difference compared here in the US. In Vietnamese I learned how there is a lot of of more rules than here in America, whether it’s in a relationship , to how you greet people, to how you set up at a dining table.
